THE POSITION

FanDuel Group is looking for an experienced tax professional to join the Tax Department in our New York City office. The Senior Tax Associate will assist the FanDuel Group Tax Department with all tax-related matters for the entire FanDuel US group and TSG US group. Responsibilities cover assisting with all manner of tax planning opportunities, managing elements of the various tax compliance processes (i.e. income taxes, DFS taxes, wagering and withholding taxes, sales taxes, etc.), conducting tax research and writing position memos, and building and refining complex tax work papers and financial models. The Senior Tax Associate will work closely with the broader finance, legal, and human resources functions as well as working with the international tax team at Flutter Entertainment.
This role represents an exciting opportunity to help shape the tax positions and processes across both US operating groups.
THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play
- Assist the FanDuel Group Tax Department with a wide variety of tax planning projects across all of the lines of business within both US operating groups
- Drive key elements of the annual federal and state income tax compliance process
- Co-own the wagering and gaming tax reporting processes
- Own the daily fantasy sports tax reporting process
- Co-own the informational reporting and withholding processes (i.e. 1099, 1042, and W-2G reporting) with a focus on improving the customer experience
- Build/refine multifaceted tax workpapers and financial models under the direction of the FanDuel Group Tax Department
- Liaise with international, federal, state, and local taxing authorities
- Co-own the tax notice resolution process
- Oversee the sales tax reporting process
- Own a variety of ancillary tax processes (e.g. business property taxes, local business tax filings, vendor contract review, etc.)
- Assist with the tax provisioning process
- Assist with defending against all kinds of tax audits and reviews across all tax types but especially income and gross receipts taxes, wagering and gaming taxes, and daily fantasy sprots taxes
- Conduct tax research and draft issue memos under the direction of the FanDuel Group Tax Department
- Work closely with the international tax team at Flutter Entertainment
- Work closely with the FanDuel Group Tax Department to identify and implement potential process improvements across the entire tax function
- Manage relationships with the other internal business functions and our outside tax consultants
THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another similar business field
- 2+ years of professional experience working with corporate tax compliance and tax planning (preferably Big-4 experience or a combination of Big-4 and private experience)
- CPA certification is highly preferred (must be in-pursuit at a minimum)
- Advanced Excel skills are required
- Professional experience with tax provisioning, income tax auditing, and/or GAAP financial reporting is a plus
- Must have a strong desire to learn about new areas of tax, GAAP financial reporting, and the gaming regulatory environment (via direction from the FanDuel Group Tax Department and continuing professional education courses)
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must be data driven with the ability to bring strong analytical rigor to decision-making with a focus on getting the right answer
- Excellent organizational skills and time/project management skills are required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Professional experience in the sports or gaming industries is a major plus
- Professional experience with FCC registered entities and/or the network broadcasting industry is a plus
- Experience in any other areas of tax is a plus
- Experience with Oracle, Tableau, Alteryx, and/or OTP is a plus
