We at Gate Zero are producing an open world adventure game set in the fascinating time of Jesus’ life. The game, based in ancient Israel, will be an immersive and innovative way to discover and learn about the Bible’s history and its revolutionary message. We are looking for a capable and passionate texture artist to join our creative, animated and driven team.

The Role: As a Senior Environment Artist you are passionate about crafting beautiful realistic assets and bringing them together to build amazing worlds for our players to explore. You have an eye for scale, perspective and detail, and love to get stuck into research to ensure the accuracy of props, buildings and external environments.

As a Senior Environment Artist, you will play an integral part in building a brand new world for an exciting new IP, communicating the project’s vision through tone and style inspired by the project’s narrative and design.

Job Overview: The Senior Environment Artist is responsible for creating, modeling, and texturing a variety of environmental settings for video games, films, and other 3D media projects. This position requires exceptional artistic ability and technical expertise in areas such as lighting, composition, and 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 3D environmental models using programs such as Maya, Blender or 3DS Max
  • Texture models with realistic and stylized textures using Substance Painter or Photoshop
  • Collaborate with game designers and level designers to create cohesive and immersive environments
  • Implement assets into game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Ensure that all assets meet the technical and artistic requirements of the project
  • Develop the environment in a modular way.
  • Optimize assets for performance and memory usage
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology and techniques in environment art

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as an Environmental Artist
  • Experience with 3D modeling and texturing software such as Maya, 3DS Max, Substance Painter, or Photoshop
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Modeling
  • Creating Textures and applying them to the 3D models in a modular/reusable ways.
  • A great artistic eye. Knowing what “makes a scene”
  • A firm understanding of architectural elements, environments, and props
  • The ability to take a blockout from Level Designers and turn into a fully lit/crafted level
  • The ability to be detail-oriented, while also seeing the bigger picture
  • Excellent at problem-solving
